January 2013 A month of blogging - Day 3

Goal planning part one

Goal planning is something that I've done at this time of year for about the last three years and I've made some mistakes along the lines that means some of my good intentions have gone by the weigh side. But I've also made some realisations too and these are essential if your goal planning is to succeed. I will share these with you today and tomorrow will share how I break down my plans to give me my small targets

The first thing I would say to anyone setting goals for themselves is to set goals about things you are passionate about. Something that inspires you. There is no point in setting goals about something you hate. So if conversing with clients is your passion and you want to do that more. Goal plan for that. Don't goal plan for admin that you hate doing (outsource it, it will get done quicker and more effectively anyway)

Secondly always be positive about your goals, share them with other positive people and the ability to realise your potential and achieve your goals instantly becomes easier. You will look forward to achieving your goals

Finally how practical is your goal? Is it achievable? Is it useful to yourself and others? Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound. When you have many goals, set priority for each goal and work accordingly so that you are not overwhelmed.

Goal planning and priorities are essential for success too so after you have established these points you are ready to plot out exactly how you will get to your goal and when. I will give you my thoughts and ideas on this tomorrow.
